Thesis Proposal Template

This document serves a number of purposes:

• The most basic is that it contains headings with brief descriptions of what should be in each section, according to the graduate student handbook (with minor edits on my part).
• Secondly, it demonstrates the use of styles in MS Word, and contains notes about their use.
• Third, it demonstrates the use of automatic and dynamic figure numbering, and contains notes about that method.
• Fourth, it contains the ancillary pages (e.g., signature page) with the correct formatting already applied.
• Finally, it has a bunch of other tips on using the available tools to make the writing and process easier for you and the editing/reviewing process easier for your committee and advisor.

There are three versions:

The first is suitable for MS Word versions 2003 and 2004 and is self-contained. All the functionality is in VBA scripts within the document. [Download]

The second is suitable for MS Word version 2007 and is self-contained. All the functionality is in VBA scripts within the document. [Download]

The third is for MS Word 2008, which doesn't at this time support VBA scripts, and so it comes packaged with two applescripts to do the checking of figure numbering and toggling of bookmark boundaries. These should be placed in the script menu folder. Note that this version probably works with Word 2004 as well, although I haven't tested it there. [Download]
