Objectives for the topic: Chemographics (plotting mineral formulas)

Reading: See syllabus

Images to understand: See syllabus

After completing this topic, the student will be able to:

  1. Portray a solid solution graphically as a line segment between endpoints.
  2. Plot specific compositions on such a line segment.
  3. Project ternary compositions onto this line segment, both graphically and numerically.
  4. Use ternary plotting paper to portray specific compositions that are intermediate among three end-members.
  5. Numerically project quaternary compositions onto this plane.
  6. Read intermediate compositions from points on a ternary plot.
