I've made a change in the lab final compared to the syllabus, which I think will improve the course. The lab final will be in two parts: the first part will be a timed closed-book lab practical during the scheduled time. The second part will be an open-book, cooperative, untimed lab practical. These will each be worth half of the listed points for the lab final on the syllabus.

One of the things we'll need to do early in the course is introduce some analytical tools you may wish to use in your term project. These include making thin sections and using the SEM for chemical analysis. These introductions will be sessions outside of class time.
