Overview: The field trip will be by sea kayak, along the coast just south of town. We will start and finish at Larrabee State Park (see below), and we will discuss the Chuckanut sandstone that makes up the coastal outcrops, and coastal processes that we can observe along the way. I have worked out a deal with a local kayaking company, Moondance kayaks, to provide gear and kayaking instruction for a reduced rate.
Disclaimer: I wish to note that although I receive none of the money you are paying for this trip, Moondance is waiving my trip fee for these outings.
Release: You must sign two releases, one is for the University, and the other is for Moondance. Both basically state that you understand kayaking has risks and you can't sue the University or Moondance if something happens. You should print out, sign, and bring to the trip with you the Moondance release, as well as the University release.
Time/Date: There will be one or two half-day sessions. More may be scheduled if weather permits and demand justifies them (and Dave has the time). They are currently set for:
Cost: The cost is $36, payable by check only (made out to "Moondance"). You must turn in your payment by the due date to keep your spot reserved. Your money will not be refunded, even if you fail to show up (for any reason).
Location: The trips will leave from the Boat Ramp at Larrabee State Park. You take Chuckanut Drive south until you get to Cove Road. Turn right on Cove, and after you cross the tracks, turn left onto Pleasant Bay Road. Take this to the Boat Ramp, park, and say "Hi!". Please be on time, or we may leave without you and your money will be wasted.
What to Bring: Moondance has a list of gear to bring which I've posted here.
