Muddiest Point Responses

I will put responses here to some of the muddiest point problems or other important questions.

  1. Why are there two websites? What is on each one?
All the material can't be on the main site, because I can't administer quizzes / tests / discussion groups / etc. on the main site. All the material can't be on Blackboard because I don't trust Blackboard to be available reliably. It has broken down too many times in previous courses. We will use Blackboard only for:
  2. What parts of the website are activated / up-to-date?
The whole site, and the whole Blackboard site are working / up-to-date except:
  3. What should I bring to lab?
    Pencil and paper is sufficient.
  4. What should be completed by the next class on Friday?
    Nothing.
  5. How do I know my section is harder?
Students have told me numerous times.
  6. What are the objectives for?
The objectives are what I use to make exam questions. They are the complete list of what I want you to know at the end of the course. If you know all the objectives and can think about them carefully, you will get 100% on all my exams. I suggest you use them as a study aid.
  7. What are the tests like?
They are multiple-choice, unfortunately. I wish they could be short answers, but I just don't have time to grade 150 short answer exams. Sample test questions are in the Pre-Course Assessment on Blackboard (under Assignments > Extra Credit); those questions are taken from actual final exams.
