December 12, 2001

The course results, including grades are posted. You can look at your final exam, and pick up your other assignments) by finding me in my lab or office.

December 5, 2001

The results of the lab practical final are posted.

November 14, 2001

I have posted a way to earn extra credit.

November 9, 2001

The results of today's midterm are posted. I've also calculated an "estimated course grade" by assigning a fake score for the two final exams that is equal to your current (uncurved) course percentage; these are posted, too.

November 5, 2001

The lectures to date are now posted, for help in studying. I've also posted a kind of sample exam, with some discarded questions, some questions like those on the midterm, and some others I think are instructive (MS Word, PDF, HTML).

October 31, 2001

Next Tuesday's lab (Lab 6) is posted (MSWord, PDF, HTML). It will not be XRD, but mineral ID review. You will be scored on preparation and participation, but there will not be anything you must turn in. I think/hope it will be sort of fun, as well. We'll see.

October 28, 2001

Homework 4 (due this Wednesday!) is posted. It should be short. The best way to turn this in is via email, but if you can't work that out, you can print it out & turn it in on Wednesday.

October 25, 2001

I will be handing out a paper copy of Lab 5 on Friday, but it is posted [MS Word, PDF, HTML]. This is the last of our mineral ID labs!

October 18, 2001

Lab 4 is posted [MS Word, PDF, HTML]. Just as last week, you must have your individual work done when lab begins - it will be collected.

October 17, 2001

Grades for Midterm 1 are posted, along with a histogram. I am quite pleased, overall. Good job.

October 15, 2001

Homework three is posted. Note that I have not yet set a due date for homework two. (I need to teach you the material for part 2)

October 11, 2001

I have posted my lecture notes for the first 8 lectures. The first midterm will cover all the material through tomorrow's lecture (Friday). The midterm will emphasize lecture material, but there may be questions solely from the reading.

October 11, 2001

The lab is in the room, and the rocks are out for lab 3. Note that uraninite should be replaced by ilmenite.

October 10, 2001

The second homework is posted. You haven't learned anough to do part 2, but you could tackle part 1 now. There is a color version, and a gray verion.

October 8, 2001

A copy of our course text is in and should be on reserve in the Wilson library by tomorrow or Wednesday.

October 8, 2001

The evaluation form is working again! You can (and are encouraged to) anonymously critique my teaching.

October 5, 2001

The complete (as of today, but subject to later change) list of minerals you will be responsible for identifying by the end of the quarter is also posted.

October 5, 2001

I've prepared Tuesday's lab. I will have it xeroxed for you on Tuesday, but if you wish to prepare (as you should!) it is available here.

September 28, 2001

The homework I assigned on Wednesday will be collected on Monday.

September 28, 2001

The course text, being new, is not in the library yet, but we are getting the publisher to send us another copy to put on reserve in the library. I expect it will take a few weeks; I'll let you know when it is there.

September 27, 2001

I have made a supplement to the handout for Lab 1. I will pass it out in class tomorrow, but you can also find it here.

August 31, 2001

Welcome to the course web page!
